Running a simple, highly efficient and profitable operation has huge lifestyle benefits.
Once the crops are in the ground David and Tracy Fisher go overseas for a few months every year. They have an apartment on the Gold Coast and a log cabin in Virginia.
While overseas they will often travel to Canada and American states such as Saskatchewan to attend machinery fairs where they can see the latest in farm machinery and equipment.
David has the sort of inquiring mind that no amount of formal education can engender; he believes learning is everything in life.
"Every day you're learning something new," he says. "What you want to do is grab hold of it."
He enjoys the fact that information is so accessible today and uses tools such as the internet to further his knowledge and keep up-to-date with technological advances.
The family work as a team with Andrew as enthusiastic about farming as his parents; Peter, who enjoys working with people, is working part-time on the farm while he completes theological studies. David and Tracey's daughter Hayley lives and farms in South Canterbury with her husband, Lindsay.
