Ranui Angus sources the winner
01-07-2010 | Not Specified
The recent Steak of Origin competition was once again a massive success and another record-breaking undertaking.
It is therefore unfortunate that after the conclusion of the competition we have discovered an error in the name of the farmer we have reported as sourcing the Best of Brand winner.
I would like to make it clear that we have made no mistake with the winner - Chef's Choice was named the Best Brand after winning the Wholesale and Foodservice category - but the name of the farmer we reported as the source of this product was incorrect. We have reported the farmer as being Rob Johnstone when the correct name is Lindsay and Maria Johnstone, of Ranui Angus.
We can only put this mistake down to human error. It seems that with another competition entrant called Rob Johnstone, a simple transposing of first names has occurred.
I would like to sincerely apologise to the Johnstones. With over 400 entries to process, this competition is getting so large that controlling all the entries as they come in is a massive undertaking.
For Lindsay and Maria Johnstone, the supply of this winning Chef's Choice entry topped off an excellent week at the Beef Expo where they won numerous awards. In the Future Beef New Zealand competition, their animals won the prizes of Champion, Reserve Champion and Supreme Grand Champion Steer Overall. As well as this they took out the Champion and Reserve Steer on the Hoof titles.
Again, I would like to apologise for our mistake. We take the Steak of Origin very seriously as we know how important the prestigious title is to the entrants. For next year's competition I say good luck to everyone entering; we will be working hard to make the Steak of Origin 2011 better than ever.
